The Rath yatra was celebrated with much fervour and gaiety at the ISKCON Mayapur here in Nadia district today. A large number of people including 1000 foreign devotees participated in the Rath yatra braving inclement weather. The devotees pulled the chariots of Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra and their sister Devi Subhadra.
Justice Rakesh Tiwari of Kolakata High Court inaugurated the proceedings. He recalled that how the HDG Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad as a kid used to perform RathWest at his home in Kolkata. He also quoted verses from Brahma Samhita to uphold his opinion that Lord Krishna is the cause of all causes and it is duty of each individual to serve Him. Noted educationist Siraj ul Islam appealed to all communities to join the bandwagon of Rath pullers. He further explained the concept that as the wheel of Rath rolls it symbolises the life of livings species. Bengal Correctional Services minister Ujjal Biswas participating in the event highlighted importance of unity and said Rath yatra in Mayapur that brings all religion together.
Nadia district administration officials, political leaders of all major parties and noted personalties from various walks of life participated in the Mayapur ISKCON rath yatra festival.
